PD on Your Plan

Transitioning to the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science:

Updated Mar 9th, 2016

Introduction:
Many teachers from around the state are beginning to take a look at the new Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science adopted by the Oklahoma State Board of Education in March 2014 and signed into law by Governor Fallin in June of 2014.  While many have browsed the documents, teachers and districts are beginning to consider how they might transition to the new science standards, as the state assessments for science given for 5th grade, 8th grade, and Biology 1 will not be aligned to the new standards until the 2016-2017 school year.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education has developed a series of virtual modules to better support teachers, schools, and districts with the transition. The virtual modules, “PD on Your Plan”, can be utilized in a variety of ways. Individual teachers can utilize them or school districts can utilize them in staff development meetings, department meetings or professional learning community meetings.
All of the modules found in this series can be found below:
Module 1: A Vision for K-12 Science Education (Link)
Module 2: A Vision for Science Education “Classroom Example” (Link)
Module 3: Introduction to the 3 Dimensions in the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science (Link)
